Bride and Groom Anna Flanagan Marriage Celebrant

Registered Marriage Celebrant

My name is Anna Flanagan.  I’m married to the lovely Paul - that's us up there.  We have 6 kids between us, kind of like the Brady Bunch, and we have 6 fur babies.

I became a Celebrant because I'm passionate about weddings - this is my dream job!  I’m caring, professional and dedicated to making your day special, in exactly the ways you want.

My style is fun, relaxed and informal - I like to tell your story.  I will work with you to create a a ceremony that reflects the two of you.  To do that I ask a lot of questions and I will also give you some homework... Don't worry, it's not hard and there's no test!

I'm based in Christchurch, but travel to Kaikoura, Hanmer Springs, North Canterbury, Methven, Ashburton and Timaru for weddings.  I am happy to travel anywhere in our beautiful Aotearoa!

I'm a Registered Independent Marriage and Civil Union Celebrant, and a member of Celebrants Aotearoa.  That means you're employing a celebrant who belongs to the national professional body, and has passed the association’s Code of Ethics and Professional Standards test.  I am committed to ongoing professional development with a network of celebrants to call on if needed.

That's all cool, but what's in it for you?

As much or as little as you want!  Here's what it usually looks like:

  • We'll have a catch up - at your place or out somewhere, whatever works for you.  Ask me whatever you want, I'm not shy (that wouldn't work well in this job!).  I'll ask you a bunch of questions about the two of you - like what kind of wedding you want, how you met and what you two are about, as a couple.

  • If I’m the right human to officiate your day, I'll ask you to complete my Booking Form and I'll send you an invoice for a deposit.  This secures your date.

  • You can ask anything you like, any time!  It's my job to make sure all the legal requirements are met, so you don't have to worry about it.  I've done this a lot, so I know some amazing vendors & venues, and can offer recommendations and advice.

  • I have resources available online to help with planning your ceremony, and I have an online questionnaire for you and your partner to complete (one each!). This really helps me to personalise your ceremony and tell your story.

  • We'll have another meeting closer to your wedding date where we will discuss more details about your day, like what is important to you in your ceremony, who are your witnesses and what are your bridal party wearing...

  • I'll work with you on your vows - whether you want to write your own or get some inspiration from me.

  • I'll write your ceremony and send to you for your feedback and input. We'll change and refine it until it's perfectly you.

  • I'll guide you through applying for your marriage licence, remind you to do it, and send to me!
Keep in mind that the cost for this is (currently) $150, and isn't included in my fee.

  • I'll be at your rehearsal, either at your venue or elsewhere.  I'll run you through the how the ceremony works and discuss where everyone stands, what 'signing the register' entails, who you want to sit in the front row and so on.

  • On the day, I'll be there nice and early, to help direct guests, calm nerves, check you're both ok, and do a sound check prior to the ceremony.  I'll have your vows printed for you both which serves as a keepsake of your day, your marriage licence printed and a pen to sign!

Then, we'll get you married!

It doesn’t matter if you don’t live in Christchurch or even New Zealand, we can chat over the phone or Zoom.  I’m more than happy to discuss travel anywhere within Aotearoa.

It’s all about the two of you, that’s what I’m here for.
