Terms & Conditions

Thank you for trusting me with your ceremony!

Each ceremony I write is unique and specifically designed for the two of you, so no two ceremonies are identical. To allow me the time to make your ceremony perfectly you, it is best to provide me with as much information as you can, as early as possible after our first meeting.

My goal is to make the process of creating your ceremony as enjoyable and stress-free as possible. Clear communication and timely responses from both of us help ensure the best experience and the best outcome for your ceremony.

My role as your celebrant is to deliver an authentic ceremony that is warm, memorable and legally correct.

My responsibilities to you include confidentiality, privacy and respect for the information that you share. I will do my best to meet your needs. As a member of Celebrants Aotearoa, I am bound by professional ethics and standards and covered by Indemnity Insurance, which is required at some venues.

PAYMENT & FEES

My Marriage Celebrant Fee varies depending upon the option you have selected and will be quoted to you.

An additional travel charge will apply if your wedding is more than 50km from my home (Christchurch).  A non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your booking, and an invoice will be sent to you for this.  Your wedding date is not reserved until the deposit has been received.

The balance of my fee is due one month before your wedding date, and a second invoice will be sent for this. The balance is non-refundable if you cancel within one month of your wedding date.

Please note that my fees are subject to change, however any fee quoted to you by me will be honoured.

CLIENT RESPONSIBILITIES

The Couple agrees to:

  • Provide information requested by the Celebrant in a timely manner.

  • Review and respond to questionnaires, drafts and requests for information within reasonable timeframes.

  • Ensure all information provided is accurate.

  • Arrive on time for scheduled meetings, rehearsals and the ceremony unless otherwise agreed.

  • Advise the Celebrant promptly of any significant changes to plans, venue, timing or contact details.

  • Apply for a Marriage Licence within the required timeframe.

MARRIAGE LICENCE

It is your responsibility to apply online for a Marriage Licence from Births, Deaths and Marriages within the three months prior to your wedding date.

You will receive your marriage documents by email as PDF attachments, or if you choose to courier, they will arrive on paper.

Please check all details are correct and provide/forward them to me. If emailed, I will print them for your ceremony.

I also recommend you apply for a Marriage Certificate at the same time. This will be sent to you after your wedding once your marriage has been registered. This certificate is often required as proof of legal status, for example when renewing your passport.

The failure to have a valid Marriage Licence at the time of the ceremony means that I cannot legally solemnise the marriage. Any ceremony conducted in these circumstances will not create a legal marriage.

I will complete the marriage documentation on the day of the ceremony and return it to Births, Deaths and Marriages within ten days of your wedding (typically on the same day).

Please note that you will not automatically receive a Marriage Certificate unless you request and pay for one through Births, Deaths and Marriages.

CANCELLATION

The Couple acknowledges that notice of cancellation of the ceremony must be given to the Celebrant in writing via email.

The Celebrant reserves the right to retain the non-refundable deposit.

If cancellation occurs within one month of the wedding date, the full balance remains payable.

In the unlikely event of my unavailability on your wedding day, I will do my best to arrange for a celebrant colleague to conduct your ceremony, as I have written it, in my place. Your Marriage Licence will remain valid, and no additional fees will be charged.

POSTPONEMENT

Where a ceremony is postponed rather than cancelled, all payments made will be transferred to the new date, provided I am available.

If I am unavailable on the new date, the postponement will be treated as a cancellation and the cancellation provisions of this agreement will apply.

CHANGES TO YOUR CEREMONY DATE, VENUE OR TIME

The Couple agrees to notify the Celebrant immediately in writing via email of any change to the time, date or place of the ceremony.

The Celebrant reserves the right to end this agreement and retain the deposit should she be unable to conduct the ceremony due to the proposed change.

If the ceremony is to be moved to an alternative venue due to inclement weather, one member of the Couple must inform the Celebrant personally by phone at least two hours prior to the ceremony start time to ensure sufficient travel time to the alternative venue.

FORCE MAJEURE

Neither party shall be liable for failure to perform their obligations where such failure is due to circumstances beyond their reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, severe weather events, pandemics, government restrictions, transport disruptions or other emergencies.

Both parties agree to work together in good faith to find a practical solution wherever possible.
